Process Automation for Dynamics GP

Process Automation for Dynamics GP

New Features Make Dynamics GP Rock; Process Automation Makes Your ERP Roll

This spring, Microsoft provided an update on what is planned for the next release of Dynamics GP, called GP 2018. In the Microsoft world, new features are referred to as “rock.” Big new features are called big rocks (you can probably guess what minor feature updates are called.

Planned for a late 2017 release, GP 2018 will include plenty of new rocks—many of them approaching the integration of document and process management into the mix. Big rocks include more workflow updates (called "Workflow 4.0"), further document management enhancements, finance and HR optimization, and what the GP team is referring to as "Power Suite" for reporting and business intelligence.

For Dynamics GP users, a lot of these rocks have been a long time coming, and many seem to touch on the real capabilities that companies want to achieve - digitization and automation of their processes.

But to TRULY achieve business digitization and process automation, companies will want to look beyond Microsoft to solutions that integrate seamlessly with their ERP and do far more to eliminate process bottlenecks and automate the most painful parts of their back end business processes.

Smart Capture Technology makes Dynamics GP Rock and Roll

While Microsoft will deliver a taste of the kinds of workflow automation, document integration and business intelligence capabilities that are part of any business digitization and process automation initiative, the best the customers are likely to achieve is whetting their appetite for a complete solution to take the pain out of their existing business processes.

What’s missing from the core Dynamics GP platform to achieve what organizations are looking for? First and foremost is a convenient, reliable way to transform business documents into data. The ONLY way to achieve this critical element today is smart capture technology. Smart capture technology has evolved into an affordable way for companies of any size to eliminate manual data entry for business documents and rely on software to “read” scanned paper or digital documents and extract business data that can automatically be entered into an ERP system like Dynamics GP.

Nailing that critical first step achieves two goals: 1) it delivers faster, more timely access to business data and 2) it drastically reduces errors. That means that you get better information more quickly, resulting in a more dependable snapshot of your business KPIs.

ALL KINDS of benefits roll out of having access to business data and related digital documents. Workflow automation is a natural extension of smart capture capabilities, because now that you now have the data and documents you need, applying business rules to automate routing for approvals and passing along relevant data like G/L codes becomes a snap.
